India not calling

Filed under: Economics, Life in general, Weather — bananasfk @ 5:07 pm

'Chicken sexers r Us' main telephone line is out of order through a British telecom fault at there end somewhere - so its been a quiet day on the phone.

I hear that British Telecom hordes of indian employees in India have all volunteered to fly to england and fix the fault which is not on our equipment.

Tomorrow should be quiet too. Must be 'the wrong kind of sunshine'.

six figures becomes three and other tv tales.

Some english man won an american job on a gameshow there I read, however if you translate the prize its half what he had won if he was in england.

Ponder.

I shall be watching Homicide life on the Street rather than Big brother on friday - its going to be the 'man' that leaves, and with an ex contestant on hunger strike thing have gone rather pear shaped this year.

Silly these game show contestants don't you agree?.

Wireless and fancy free

Filed under: Linux Distros, Microsoft, Wifi, dumb, fud — bananasfk @ 1:43 am

We will soon be able to go wireless (an impression i have) Im not dissing routers here its the question of Linux receivers/ transmitters either via usb or pci support in computers then rears its head - its not native support.
This makes wifi a little more hit and miss for linux users - nothing wrong with that but if we can put off wifi until now how many others have ? - So the question is that it makes all wifi pc's by default tagged as windows machines which must thus be unsecured, and very hackable. I'm talking wifi here - so find a hotspot and your 'in'. While the internet might deemed to be 'insecure', there's a wide variety of things connecting to it via some standard concepts, so while i might assume your running microsoft i can not be sure, wifi means i can assume all pc's with wifi are insecure as only windows can do wifi.

This makes wifi a fools paradise, while wifi can be secure, i am not sure we want-to be tagged as a wifi windows fools.

If i was in charge of wifi i'd be worried. Yes it can be done with linux but the card manufacturers seem to have messed up big time is as wifi seems to be for windows only by design ? - I sense some Billy Gates fud here.

We are sticking with cables for now but we can say 'we can do wifi but will not use it'. Its a vendor issue and i know what to buy for linux support, but it means many of the products on offer i would not touch with barge pole.

That threatens wifi as a protocol there nothing wrong with 802.11 something or other but the strange attitude the producers of wifi kit have to unix.

Make up your own mind. before you comment saying it is possible (which i said) please consider the larger issue.
