Is finally out ! isbn: 185725214 – i had it reserved since January, with the newly discovered letters not in the twenty volume set by Peter Davidson.
Orwells list
George Orwell had a list of dubious characters during the war, its famous because until recently its been known of but never published but in the Lost Orwell it has
Michael Foot, who was rumoured to be on the list was not . The list isnt very big, but since orwell met many its very much a strange affair the word ‘stupid’ is used a lot.
The extracts of letters from the Bowker biography make an appearance too
Kopf – his spanish civl war buddy is a strange character, and the Letters from Eilen to her friend are illuminating – I still think Eileen was a very nice person, if your an Orwell junkie there’s enough in it and it does enough it fill in the letters that have come light since the twenty set of books of what was considered to be his full correspondence during his life at the time.
The second half of the book is a list of amendments to the footnotes to letters – i’m not that much of an orwell fan to note twenty volumes = of a lot a pages
HG Wells, I rather enjoyed Orwells spats with fellow authors, and the book contains Orwells obituary on Wells, some nice unseen pictures too.
Blair also knew the Fuck word too (which some newspaper reviewers have seized upon) not only F** variety its funny because until ‘Lady Chattery Lovers’ such words where banned from books along with brand names.
The french translator had to ask what f*** was.
rating: five out of five bananas.
