The future past (Tron at 25+)

Tron and his girlTron is a film (imdb: tt0084827) not a basic function and was made around 26 years ago+. It is still a cool film. In a recent visit to my local library i noted that they had the 25 year anniversary dvd available, and in a fit of irrationality i decided to rent it.

I was after the unseen extras (thats my excuse), but the production talk of how they did it just shows why Tron is an unrated modern masterpiece. I was impressed that that dvd restored much of the the 65mm camera* work that failed to transfer onto older consumer formats.

missing scene imageSome of the tron script spoken words is not good, but nobody has yet since made a film that goes inside the computer and takes a human there and done it better than tron. The matrix was essentially a live action film set in a earth like reality inside a computer – so it really does not come close.

What i like about tron is the good v bad aspect and it’s stunning visuals, take the lightcycles. To be critical though some of the visuals don’t work (grid bugs) but the main effect is that is still worth seeing the film today.

Tron might be a Disney film but its techniques are still of experimental cinema. Yes it’s a long way from the Shrek type characters kid love today but then my computers motherboard still has more green led’s on it and so looks more like a Tron environment than the matrix does.

Its nice to know that my taste for this film, retains my regard for it.
* Lawrence of Arabia was filmed in this.
