Weighing in at 434.5 mb Vista service pack one is one big gorrilla for ‘vista’ to handle
Download wise on one pc unit expect three hours (maybe longer) then Microsoft advise an hour, and number of reboots so expect serous downtime and awfull tco (total cost of ownership) stats. No network access is required during the process once you have downloaded it, but it clains to need 8 gb of free disk space to work.
No problems to report so far, user login seems a little more spritley (no lockup). Theres some retarded stuff still in vista, it continues to freak out that the vista box does not have a firewall being that it 3 hops from the network gateway on two private ip space ranges means its secure from most attackers.
Samba support is also still basic and tricky it appears, drm on dvd.cd r writers mean i have yet to put the exe on a disk so your dvd-rw might be still disabled. The zoo has a linux box or two so we made copy of the pack via that rather than from windows Vista.
Our vista user does not tax microsoft sofware or vista much but maybe it solves problems but the casual user might not see much difference. I see further hefty service packs on there way.
So thats it ‘underwhelmed’.
