Jeanette Winterson is a snob

She wrote isbn 978-0241143957 and her publisher refused to have it entered into a book prize being it was a ‘type cast’ thing or other I read.

I refuse to rate the book, but if she and her publisher feel ‘snobbish’ then take it from me when i say Jeanette Winterson cannot write and essentially does not do wish to do anything with the scope to explore.

Some might say that the public telephone box is a really great plot device but now made unreal and unpractical by the home phone. A mobile phone or ‘handy’ in Ms Winterson’s eyes must be ‘sci-fi’ and horror of all horrors. Let us all hope that no mobile phone or modern ‘thing’ shall be seen in any of her books.

HP inkjet printer firmware is bonkers

Bananas got out the hand me down photo printer (my blog) and printed out an 80 page share prospectus, Its black ink cartridge (type 56) ran out which was the whole intention of the printing it on this printer.

Its a nice printer, and I had a spare cartridge of black ink part used which came free from the owner, and at page sixty things where getting faint, and i changed bank ink, at the end of the document a test page was printed that told me that the new cartridge (but was part used prior) was now 100% full.

Even though another 20 pages had been printed, not forgetting the ink used before that.

Perplexing.

However the printing looked good. The moral is don’t ever believe your hp test page on ink levels.

The next time i turned it on – the same cartridge that was 100% was then 85%. Confused ? we both are.

In this pfi gets a bad name (bbc).  After many years of state misrunning and then unwillingness to invest in a public transport system falling to bits a public / private funding bill was announced.  A private firm was given a long term contract to fix what had not been maintained with all the money up front.

Result – its now back in the hands of the public sector. Oh Gordon Brown should get the credit for this one.

coasters in vista, and tco (again)

So all i wanted to do was put a file on to the cdr disk – but windows vista would not let and than closed the session, result one coaster.

It was a webcam driver, so is Microsoft better than Linux for running out of the box ? no as i still had to make a driver, visit a website download a file, then run it as adminsitrator.

Sounds a bit like Linux there dont it but at least its been five years since i last made a coaster for the professors coffee mug.

Gnome baker (thats in x server not windows) is much better than Vistas ‘help’ anyday of the week. Personally i am going to blame some drm check in Vista rather than me.

In this (bbc) we discover that despite been moved from the schedules ‘Gordon Brown Britishness‘ failed once again to engage the eastern europeans (or anybody else in europe dumb enough).

At least the crap remover (this years ‘right colour’ uk’s contestant) was not a trans-gendered airline employee (from last years dr who coverage).

So what have we learned about ‘Britain’* in europe under Gordon Brown ?, well airline employees cannot sing, and garbage collectors don’t engage, but its ‘socialist’ by nature.

Don’t worry for bananas in the falklands is only aware of this ‘lets makes the idiots of europe aware of europe’ event by the rescheduling of Dr Who. After all just who the fuck gives a shit what some old retired shit for brains irishman ** thinks.
