book: The Girls of Rijadh

Filed under: Books, Love, Saudi Arabia — Tags: , — bananasfk @ 00:05

is by Rajaa Alsaanea, isbn 9781905490202 and was published in 2007 details the pre marriage actives of four Saudi girls before they got married.  This ‘book’ started as an internet pre blog thing which depending on your view on the people who provided the world with bin ladin and finance for many terror groups (no not Iran)  and caused much discussion on there views in a men only society

Naturally the book got banned in Saudi. It documents a pretty sick ‘conservative’ society which classes females as a lower life form. Where leaving the country to pursue life is required.  This book should also interest you (my blog)

Saudi Arabia - Not pro womens rights

Saudi Arabia - Not pro women's rights and probably happy with the ban.

The book is very clean, has no swearing but somehow saudi arabians found this book disturbing enough to ban.  Go figure.  Not all saudis are pro suicide bombers and the like but i imagine the type who do got it banned.

Saudis (and i have met some) do come across as aloof, with male unemployment at unknown levels (supposed high) the clamour to leave the country explains much yet there is still a conservative blindfold even on those who might deem love an western thing.

An interesting read of the classes  and caste’s of saudi by a native, and 3/5 bananas.
