What has happened to the 2009 booker prize ? I considered reading the complete longlist for 2009 and decided not too after reading the the authors on the list.
Why ? some reasons
- Sarah Walters writes for tv
- AS Byatt – fictional recent history again
- JM Coetzee – not out, sounded indugent, on the list again
- Adam Foulds – the token poetry book
- Hillary Mantel sorry lost me
- the others ‘irish’ in nature (some not available yet).
I did briefly consider Sarah Hall, James Scudamore (a sequel*) and then rejected.
That left
- Colm Toibin
- Samantha Harvey
- James Lever (my library does not have this)
Not a good year for the booker prize, i will read what i think is good, and that’s not many.
* sequels on prize lists is becoming a problem
