Skippy Dies, Paul Murray

Filed under: Booker Prize, Books — bananasfk @ 00:05

is isbn: 9780241144978 and for its sins was part of the booker 2010 longlist (my blog).  Before that discourages* you i would add that i have had this book on reserve prior to the list of doom picked it up.

British version grange hill.

Set in Ireland in a private school and is a bit like Grange Hill with fat / drugs and rugby.   At 650 pages the book wanders about in perspective and makes a few observations.

Suicide hp ink jet cartridges – ethical?

Have you played the overpriced ink game?

Actually it went bang twice. The first was when we emptied a newer design (eg still hard to buy in a shop) hp inkjet cartridge from new as supplied by hp with a new printer.  Apparently a fuse goes which tries to prevent refills by nuking the ink level monitor.

The second bang is when the metal connector bits died two months after refilling the same empty cartridge for the first time.

So we bought hp original as [we had not much choice in the matter] and on the same day the ceo of hp resigned over ethics issues [nsfw]. The prices differed though from  sterling 15 – to 30.  I don’t usually get the opportunity to buy hp stuff since the refills usually work and i gave up buying new some years ago when hp put a wrong sized but same shape as a 45 inkjet refill in the box that said 45 and found it did not fit and the printer did not like the ‘right’ component.

Both the retailer and hp have suffered for ten years for that buying mistake by us not buying from them .  Perhaps it is time to look at non hp printers with decent cups support next time if this is what is to be expected.

lol at Malcolm Steward and the “Denon AKDL1 Dedicated Link Cable”

Super Sata is not the name of a suoerhero, but the downfall of an idiot named Malcolm Steward who writes for the msm and has the belief that $1000 dollar half a meter cable is better than a’ normal cable’.

The reviews for this too funny for words and proves that retarded journalists/ audiophiles/ expensive cable (eg monster cable)  purchasers are worth there weight in retardedness and parody points take.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great cable, but too fast., June 23, 2008
By Matthew Sidor “seadour” (Boulder, CO USA)

This review is from: Denon AKDL1 Dedicated Link Cable (Electronics)
Transmission of music data at rates faster than the speed of light seemed convenient, until I realized I was hearing the music before I actually wanted to play it. Apparently Denon forgot how accustomed most of us are to unidirectional time and the general laws of physics. I tried to get used to this effect but hearing songs play before I even realized I was in the mood for them just really screwed up my preconceptions of choice and free will. I’m still having a major existential hangover.

Would not purchase again.

Giggle  Thank you Denon for proving that the AKDL1 is still the best way to prove somebody an idiot even if it now has a new name.

Super Sata is an intelligence test somebody failed

‘renewable’ hate for microsoft or when a frisbee is always a frisbee

Seasoned readers will know i dont think much of Microsoft and that hate got renewed most recently.  I have a netbook along with the obligatory mafiaa copy of xp that i did not want on dvd with no means of installing it.  Literally on a dvd less computer its a mafiaa frisbee thanks asus and microsoft.  The netbook runs Linux very well.

I have been doing stuff with computers inside computers (virtualisation) and the thought occured why not reinstall xp on the linux box.  First i had to make a iso disk and install the host on host software thats easy and then the fun started.

I point to the xp iso file i had to make, then start and see what happens.  I get a few prompts and adjust memory setting and when things look good asus’es use of symantec ghost fucks up the process with a not large enough disk issue (apparently 10gb is not enough).

We have an upgrade copy of xp – but that means installing windows nt – even more crap and no way.

The moral to the story ? Microsoft software on disk is a frisbee and always will be so.  The iso i made would seem to work if i ever wished to use all of the disk and install it to a usb drive but somehow thats never going to happen.  That might be described as an organised crime in some circles.

Staples

profiting from crime

During an electrical  powercut here at the zoo and having nothing to do except bbq the coffee to boil water in a moment of pure desperation we even read the junk mail that post office insists on delivering to us at the monkey house`.  We don’t blame to postman but the retarded management for turning him into a leaflet distributor.

What normally should happen is that it gets recycled unread – but the lure of the staples direct catalogue of featured office products caught our eye.

Some observations.

  • certain items are featured more than once (snap)
  • prices where tip top (high)
  • Stamp buying is a lot easier than before (still pricey)
  • Anybody who buys from Staples is a retard

Have you played the overpriced ink game?

Being ‘that’ bored, it was then time for the game ‘how much much is the hp ink overpriced’ game. This is a fun game where you remember how much you paid for cheap non hp ink and then compare the price for the new* cartridges.  Some of the older apes nearly fell off the monkey swing when I told them it was double the price before you add vat and postage and stuff.

After laughing at the older apes…. The moral of being bored in a powercut – is that you should never employ anybody who buys things from staples.  The staples direct catalog was then deposited in the recycle box where it will hopefully be reincarnated as something more evil say perhaps Jehovah witness crackpot stuff next time.

* new often includes bit of old manufactured ink cartridges returned to them.

Shehzad Tanween,Samundari – Too many reasons not to give money to Pakistan

Have you noticed that the evil charity people are complaining that there not raising enough foreign cash for a nation with nuclear weapons ? as they desire an war machine more than public infrastructure to cope with the weather.

So the next time your beginning to feel pressured to contribute to the Taliban – anti women association just go and google Shehzad Tanween and Samundari where this terrorist is buried. Point made I think.

Room, Emma Donoghue

Filed under: Booker Prize, Books — Tags: — bananasfk @ 00:05

isbn: 9780330519014, is a 2010 booker longlistee (my blog) that sounded actually worth reading considering the company it is in thats doing well considering the prizes history for picking crap for a winner.  However…… Room is about Josef Fritzl (bbc).  It is irritating, unoriginal and the non fiction if it ever comes out will be better.

0/5 bananas  – a book that offers soap opera.

Bilski dies

Filed under: Economics, Patents, usa — bananasfk @ 00:05

Some ancient americans (see http://www.groklaw.net/) have finally decided that business method patents are retarded.  Including Bilski which was based on something like this

I make a trade of bananas, and i might use email or a telephone call to do it…

albatross ahoy can i patent it?

Thats how retarded it was.  However having seen the zero innovation in using a telephone to do something the ‘automation’ of  innovation. At least the lawyers get another huge payday deciding what counts for innovation in a patent in Oracle v Google over ‘what’ Andriod is.

Java always had issues with compatibility (still does) despite what java fans say and also Mysql now have a large albatross over them because of there new billionaire owner.

Groklaw will no doubt be following this.  Innovation and patents (giggle)

Wireless, Charlie Stross

is isbn: 9781841497716 and is collection of short stories, I enjoyed rogue farm and maxos.

Unwirer (with Cory Doctorow) is also worth it. Other shorts are Laundry inspired (my blog, attempts,  or hp lovecraft pieces  I like most of Stross’s writing except for the merchant series.

The hugo 2010 nominated short Palimpsest (I was not expecting to get that) is also in here and did not like that.

A hint for the spammers.

Filed under: dumb, fud, media rants, rupert murdoch — bananasfk @ 00:05

Spammers a hint best stop linking to Rupert Murdoch, unless your paying me to read something its not going to happen. Rupert Murdoch makes the news rather than ‘report it’.  Thus News International  (thats Rupert Murdoch) publications are not  a good way to prove anything.
