In December (ok im very up to the minute*) a film of a Philip Pullman book was shown on tv in the early evening. Despite hearing all bad about the adaptation of the book so much so that the other two books where not even attempted i decided to see if everybody was right about economic terrorist Chris Weitz.
As i had read the books before the film i was struck by all warnings even at the start it was like Weitz was trrying to make the offensive** non offensive. Philip Pullman has sold a few books so obsuring the nature is out of the question its like taking the force out of star wars.
Demons (as in evil) is attributed to the animals that people have, and making children ‘better’ seems to indicate that Chris Weitz is a bible bashers best friend. To be safe the film goes action and what is not cute than a talking polar bear (lets hear an aww).
Mr Weitz even does a turn at the demonic alcohol, golly its getting preachy in here. In fact none of violence or abuse is hinted at and the ‘bad’ guys are doing it for best of intentions. This is not the same books that i read (although some aspects mentioned are there).
In the end this wrecker made an action film. However i notice that although Chris Weitz is still working he was second choice for a film of the glitter vampires [not seen], and has since laid of the screenwriter aspect. Fucking up Philip Pullman seems to have had some negative consequences for him and i am glad of that.
Fortunately i have a high regard of Philip Pullman and the books have proven to be better. Chris Weitz is a retarded simple minded fool and let me say no more.
