isbn:9781905207589 is the only booker longlist of the 2011 that sounded interesting to my reading logic. I doubt it will either win or be shortlisted* and usually a fashionable text wins over readability. One of the judges newspaper arm described this as juvenile can you take a hint ?.
Its an end of the world text, which is a bit immature on the politics but that works as the teenage discovers that causes can be hijacked, the confinement issue throughout the book and the apparent change in superstitions is not something i got, so some parts feel cobbled together.
A small book but interesting so i give it 3/5 bananas.
Next years judge is threatening to be more ‘literary’ – lets hope salman rushdie (who cant write) has a book ready for boring everybody to death with.
* i was correct, although the clarke award later gave it a gong
