Empires are perceived as bad. The question is are new lot better than the old lot. In Africa you can say no (my blog). A historic look at this can be seen the the film a matter of life and death (imdb: tt0038733), made in 1946 by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger who did the Red Shoes and one of my favourite films despite its age.
So the film makers are ‘sound’ what is perhaps interesting is that the british unconditionally surrender the family silver (being bad and in debt) to the americans in this film.
The film is over long and reeks of british hating yanks – but i wonder if the americans will hand over there ill gotten silver in the same manner when the time comes. Somehow i doubt that
