dong fangxiao a cheat
I have a mouse mat with a then young gymnast on, it was thrown in with an order of bananas whom apparently this firm sole sponsored. I never heard of her again. Since i had no desire to find out what happens to them?
Little girls in pretty boxes: the making and breaking of elite gymnasts and figure skaters, isbn: 0704344882, by Joan Ryan came up in a discussion on a site i read last year. So i had to read it.
That brings me indirectly to actn-3 a gene that determines what sort of idiot sports person you might be good at according to the adults, that’s where it starts and I don’t suppose the problem will disappear when you test for it.
Gymnastics and skating are now little girl sports, best seen recently by dong fangxiao with some bad chinese age math by some official although the abuse is not limited to any one country there are some shocking stories to be found.
So while you watch these people this year in that two week event lets take a look at the ones who ‘failed’.
Failure is important to define, before 1970 you might have been 35 the youngest being 21, then in 1970′s the average age was 17, by 1992 it was 16. Height and weight from 1970 to 1992 5ft to 4ft, and 7 stone to 5 stone. Naturally this also makes product sponsorship hard.
First is Julissa Gomez who never got to an Olympics event from weak bones and became comatose, by 18 she was dead and spent thousands of dollars of coaching only to be fed by a tube.
Judges are also at fault, although we only hear about Tonja Harding and her hit man, being fat, and forcing plastic surgery are some of the noteworthy things that have happened.
People (those alive) describe it as a madness.
Being fat was Christine Heenrichs ‘problem’ she is also dead through not eating. The ironic thing is that while these people is successful might get money for promoting sugary breakfast cereals which are off limits.
The final irony is that there is now a children olympics, and getting a place in team depends upon the image that the tv will show.
Although an older book i do recommend a read as it murders a few of the Olympic myths, and as dong fangxiao illustrates the problem is still plaguing the sport.
Even some of the media broadcasters in europe are a little more enlightened than i gave them credit for (my blog).but they know and still keep the abuse secret from the public. To describe these teens/adults as healthy is a something of a lie that the sport and the msm maintain.
Worth a read which i rate 5/5 bottles of a large quantity of laxative.
So the next time you see somebody in sport on tv with perfect teeth (acid in sick can wreck teeth) and telling large porky pies about being normal know that it is not true.
So when you see it [which you will], know it for what it is.
