Battlestar season 4 final on dvd

'Finding yourself'

'Finding yourself'

The editing is a little snappier than the tv, but mostly the same, it really is an enjoyable series and i still like the end.

The extras and production of the dvd’s left me wanting – not many pod casts, some deleted scenes and nothing earth shattering and the dvd’s of the earlier series seem more complete with more directors versions

Bear McCreary’s music extra was worth the time though he and his team are geniuses.

The Straight Story

man mit lawnmover.

man mit lawnmover.

is a David Lynch film (link) and is a great film, it follows a man who drives a lawnmower over a long distance in america.

This might sound awful but there is a quirkyness that makes it worth a see.

This actually happened and Mr Lynch inserts nuggets of wisdom in the story so it is rather engaging.

5/5 bananas see it.

Jonathan Ross says i love mpaa lies

Jonathan Ross says i got this for my love mpaa lies

Jonathan Ross (toff image to the right) i have accused in the past (my blog) of being a bad film critic for the bbc.  I still hold this view.  Recently he recycled a bad film piracy report and churned into one sided ‘fact‘ and broadcasted it.

In fact when briefly i listen to the bbc I get the impression that only bands signed to the big four record labels get airplay, and if like Mr Ross you don’t like the american films he has to review he gets no star guests on his chat show.

The fact that Mr Ross went the extra mile for the mpaa means nobody should take him seriously as a film critic.  The reasons are clear for if you see no evil and hear no evil your just a sheep and we all ask for a sheeps opinions all the time dont we all?.

A Scanner Darkly

ascannerdarkly

so theres this green skinned man in the room.....

Is a Philip K Dick book filmed in rotoscope (as seen in tron [my blog]) and is imdb: tt0405296

Rotoscope is part live action/animation and is a compilation of both actors (the head) and animated objects in a set.

The book deals with drugs and thus didnt get a decent cinema screening anywhere but it is arround and some of the film improves on the books core concept in its clarity but I still prefer the book.

The cast includes some famous names and i give the file 4/5 bananas.

It is an interesting study – many anti drugs campaigns say its bad, but we never hear from the victims on the ‘why’ and whotnot, A Scanner Darkly is a coherent insight into what drugs can do from a writer who saw it happen to his friends.

I miss Philip (whom you all have seen a film or too of his) dont expect to see this on tv.

rescheduled from 13/2

shock superhero shortage in cinema.

Duke and Duchess of Chester Zoo

Bananas in the Falklands has not been near a cinema for a long time (last visit was for this [my blog - not posting date think it was january]) but this was not because of us zoo inhabitants throwing bananas in the cinema no it was simply due to the fact there’s not been anything to be seen that fails the originality test.

The originality test is – Who really gives a flying fuck that a gay actor committed suicide and that was the only reason to see yet another batman remake (not here). Iron man failed on the account that we had the original graphic novell and that didn’t move me. Going ‘girly*’ i can report that Mumma Mia was seen on a stage and reviewed here so that’s been done before.

has anybody seen my superhero outfit ?

has anybody seen my superhero outfit ?

So what dragged bananas out of the zoo and into a cinema ? well imdb tt0864761 did. For those of you who are not a computer that is a Film called the Duchess. Georgiana is the name and not one cape/lycra or underpants outside your rubber fettish suit is visible. Its hard to spot the good guys in this film.

It is an interesting film and should it fail to impress then i am quite sure retardman the movie (adopted from a us dc comic **) will be in a cinema too soon for your liking.

Georgiana was an interesting society figure in england and a friend to Charles Fox and the Whigs whom opposed Pitt the younger (whom i am reading a biography so expect something soon) and so is one of those figures of history whom gets the odd mention.

Its period piece but for those of you with the passion for underpants over lycra and cowboy boots i’m pleased to tell you there’s sex in it and since superhero’s never ever have sex should mean it warrants a view ***

Bananas rates the film 5/5 bananas.

* a chic flick ** american comics on the whole are for children and have strong good/bad thing there’s not much grey *** retardman i doubt will do the sex deed on account of note ‘**’.

Angel and the new curse of the dvd* extra on tv

Angel was a spin off series and unfortunately got ripped to shreds to the television censors. I will not argue that Angel was flawed and was rather heavy on the rather repetitive (rinse and repeat) fight scenes on dvd but the question is is tv or any msm outlet really up to the task?

I never saw it on television for the simple reason of that they kept moving about the schedules and the toothbrush smile tv censorship. I know Angel is ‘fantasy’, but if tv ruins its stuff or worse of all gets the producers to ‘tone it down’ then quite what is the point of showing it. My conclusion is the tv networks do more damage than good.

Television is a media that like to think it is ‘mould breaking‘ (my blog) and so the dvd accompaniment to the tv series seems now to be a thing tv likes to do where nothing much is ever said** (even on the dvd versions)

Angel had it moments as in smile time – but being a spinoff gave it a few problems, and if say the dvd is only true way to see something then why some tv networks should be trying to ape the dvd format is odd.

The trouble with all transfers to a different format laden it with censorship, and screen resolution problems, a black and white film is black and white even on dvd. The star wars franchise and blade runner versions have completely confused everyone.

Angel is quite entertaining (five seasons) but i would not rave about it. I will save a rant about the copyright notices on the dvd for a later time.

* blueray, pinkray, brownray etc ** eg ‘its hard to go to the loo if your wearing a metal suit’

Bananas is open to ideas, if it exists there must be a reason for it existence. So it was time to visit the ‘adult world’ of Hentai a Japanese offshoot creation of anime which makes Western cartoon stuff seem tame.

Yes it is cartoon that makes family guy look like it is for children. Sometime Hentai can be disturbing, and often quite sensual. The dialogue leaves a lot to be ‘desired’ *’. I leave it your imagination to decide what is going on in the image.

Whatever you think, or think you see let me say that it is a more honest world portrayed than the world of the west in the media. For adults yes, but there is an honesty to bodily functions that we in the west would consider ‘wrong’ even though we all do the same things.

It not all disturbing, some are quite funny, some even have a message. But the mileage will vary.

oh no actors autobiography revision 4 alert.

A certain Mr William Shatner has released autobiography book number four recently i read and in review of it that it sufferes from the ‘!!!’ syndrome. Depending upon your views Mr Shatner is either an author, or someone who lends his name to fictional ghost writers a lot !!!!!!*.

This is old ground for this blog notice i do not recommend Mr Shatner here. I will be avoiding it.

Bananas had the opportunity recently to see ‘the wrath of khan’ on dvd since it was floating about. The directors cut never gets shown on tv and the romp that the star trek film 2 is a more psychological film where William Shatner has to share more of his dialogue than usual **.

Midshipman Peter Preston (wiki site image and the engineer who dies) in the film makes a little more sense than it does with the tv version of the film.

The film is still a great space romp and despite the age of the film i think it adds something with the added bits. It’s transfer onto dvd didn’t do much of an advert for dvd or whatever the next ‘nextgen dvd’ format will be.

So I am looking forward to autobiography version 5, after all one of them has got to be better than the last four ?

* parody ** a common compliant of the show beyond the fist series is that is a dialog between Nimoy and Shatner if you read the three books in the other blog post.
