Apricot jam and other stories, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

isbn: 9780857863188 is the last ‘known’* writings of Solzhenitsyn who died in 2008.  A lot of war stories in this collection of stories written in the open rather than in secret and in Russia as well after the collapse of communism.  While i admire Solzhenitsyn these documents will show the breadth of the gulag population and nobody can deny his work or those millions who died on the madness of dogma who even Solzhenitsyn offended by writing about.

A mixed bag here from a man of reason.  Perhaps a more honest account of war events than Russians could ever provide.  Twitter hashtags and books dont seem to mix that being my second observation of publishers using them

Dancing the tango with dkimproxy and postfix, with yahoo as the dance critic.

Yahoo is an odd critic

Both postfix and dkimproxy do what they say, how you get them to tango is where the fun starts.  To my surprise i did not have to do to much to get dkimproxy to sign stuff (one instance instead of many) and when things got reconfigured [my blog] which in testing and with spf the consensus was yes its signed by both of us both in spf and key.

I left postfix and mail systems assuming all was fine and dandy. Then some joker said they did not receive email from us on Yahoo whom dont do spf.  I investigate and check things out they go ok but yahoo seem to botch spf records and delete the stuff rather than send a message that say bad.   The zoo does not send huge quantities of mail to yahoo types.

I know message signing is good and as yahoo sort of invented version 1 of message signing i was perplexed not that is in use by us.  So one day  i separate the many instances of postfix and give each one an inbound and outbound dksignng point rather than the one that Yahoo seem to reject.

I run some tests on Yahoo this time and that seems to be preferred.  Message signing is cool, as to is spf records but to be as vague as yahoo is something else.

I think i know what i did wrong from a yahoo perspective, spf changed after signing and it cannot tolerate it. Odd but that is the world of plumbing for you.  Reconfiguring individual dkim daemons apparently sorted the issue to my knowledge.

no deal with novatech.co.uk

Novatech sell computer bits, unfortunately i had a very sick server of seven years to replace as it started doing really odd things from kernal issues to freezing at regular intervals, so time to replace it  .  So i tried novatech who appeal for selling no os computers which suits linux people for reasons that are logical.

The stuff looks like the usual bits of components you find anywhere and i see something that i can adapt to be a server [essentially extra network cards] anyhow i try there web  chat  feature.  I am connected to Plymouth and just to scare the living daylights out of somebody i mention linux in the chat subject.

As predicted ….. a very long delay ensues and a person who has a name starting with A whom seems to be a Microsoft employee, and grudgingly admits that bare bones is sold but its a bit weird this linux thing.  Apparently selling stuff is not A’s thing who helpfully tells me there commision id if web order something which has now become a not going to happen event.

To be clear im not asking them (or A) to install anything, just is it compatible, i just want what they sell without me researching all of the components on the motherboard which can be time consuming and ok if i dont have ASAP issues i was facing.   Since the zoo is pressuring me for a replacement its my best idea to get a competence rating.

The old server – fortunately i can get all the files i need off the old disk and I isolate it as a board problem.

A longer delay ensues where ‘A’ also is then helping a retail client in a shop – ‘A’ probably has never heard of Linux and i’m little disappointed but that’s life and my job is not to educate a computer salesman for free.  So not being willing to risk a new supplier or ‘A’ and  i go to my usual supplier whom have a product that suits us (a pc box only sans os)  i see a review that says ok with linux and that does the business and are ok to deal with most of the time.

What gets me about novatech is the strange perception A had that Microsoft windows is required.

Maybe im too hard on the humans at novatech and did not give them a chance, but somehow if you sell barebones [or advertise and be known as such] then questions will be asked and its not like i am doing anything not practical.   I like linux – i use it write this and use it serve stuff in work locations for many years.

Well no money for A or Novatech means they perhaps to need try harder with the linux suspects. Oh and the new box purchased not from them is now working and in use by the zoo.

Google – losing its effectiveness ?

Bananas was buying a book, once equipped with an isbn i see how much it might be, i see a good price from a non amazon shop, then a long weekend passes and it is now a Tuesday, so i bash in that isbn and no results from that hit appear.  Not a problem as i soon find it, redo my isbn and proceed to purchase it being cheaper than the results from the usual suspects.

Shopping is not just price based, but other things become important, and there are sites like ebay who i dont trust.  The point is if google* become to be a small bubble of suppliers who are not the best then the use of the search is a little redundant.

I proceed to purchase from the non listed supplier, and it is painless.

* i cant use Microsoft for patent and other fud reasons if you think im being silly, and the issue i raise couldhapen to any other search engine as well

Super

Andre Rojo also stars in imdb:tt1512235 and this film is touching and thoughtful.  It also does violence and death two thing missing from most  comic films.

A little slow to start with but he film pulls together and satisfies.

5/5 bananas

Iain M. Cockburn of Boston University an Insane cheerleader for Oracle ?

Dr Cockburn is apparently an ‘expert’ who feels that Oracle is being ‘done’ for not seeing money for java use.  The only problem is that while in theory java as a language works anywhere, getting it working on a thing is not something the official java suppliers do.

There are also open source versions of java that do not use the bits of ‘copyright*’ and closed source.

Cockburn is an lecturer in ‘business innovation’ i do not see how court proceedings and his attempts to define the damages for one side have left judges and others with an impression that something is rather wrong.  Groklaw is naturally the place to go for your impression but Cockburn is an insane cheerleader for billionaires would seem to better suited to the courts of east texas and perhaps utah

I can’t see how innovation is helped by court proceedings, nor do Oracle make phones so there’s much to make fools of everyone.  Even professors of business innovation.
