isbn: 9781408810033 marks a long time since i have read anything about non fiction china (my blog).  This is a detailed look at revolutionary moment with facts to back up it assertions.  Interestingly although Mao disliked soviet version marxism* he still made all the same mistakes with dams and more.

It reads a bit like Solzhenitsyn and George Orwell  but with facts.  Communism was essentially liberated an contradiction to a planned economy subject to the mistakes and fraud that during a period of four years killed conservatively 45 million chinese..
