Final android thoughts

Having seemingly spent an eternity with not my android phone (my blog) i present a few thoughts before i try and forget the experience until the ape comes back saying it does not work.  I am not an android guru by default..

sim card

Having a phone and text plan only (a very old sim) is a bit pointless.  Most existing sim cards work without surgery on the plastic part of the sim to make then mini /nano sims.

The ape with this new fangled thing is most unwilling to ask her provider of calls if it has a data allowance..Not my problem maybe a future whine and whinge i expect i shall hear.

The phones

Are nice even if the screens are bit too small (4.5 inch) for web browsing, instructions for newbies would be nice.rather than assume where are all geniuses on our seventh phone – i had to visit a public library and get a book for the ape who wanted this phone which was then deemed too complex – go figure.

Google register or else

I did not find any problems deinstalling default apps in lollipop but needing a google thing to install one seems bonkers. Oh install an ad blocker or else or be scammed to death by default there is nasty shit in mobile land.  Andriod device manager is creepy but something no idiots guide to andriod wishes to mention,

However i get the problem of why everybody does google (my blog) now with this experience

Cups (ipp)

There’s no way i would attach a ipp printer* to a router so the google android way of default printing is awfull since the zoo runs 32bit sofware i cannot install a 64bit browser with the addon, The zoo has a server that does that stuff.

Other cups clients exist but scrolling through a huge list a manufacturer printers was beyond me at this point.  Buy a ‘modern’ printer seems to be a wrong answer

Bricks and mortar phone retailers and online whole telephone package sellers

Both are too expensive – buy separately, retailers like tesco have a shit reputation with newbies to android (silver surfers) with the staff assuming you know it or have a spare eight year old child to help you.  Online from phone company is expensive too.

Buy hardware from a hardware retailer, which i will make a another blog post about and the sim from somebody else (unlocked) do not rent this crap its cheaper to own.

Browsing www

It appears the zoo needs sogo ( a webmail client) and some urls dont work right, do install a adblocker though. A work in progress.  A decent webmail (not google) ui appears to be not possible when i write this.

Our zoo website works in it though nice to know since i simulated mobile phones when ‘html-ing’ things.

The ‘case’

Another task i was tasked with was finding a case – and ebay is far too expensive for stuff so blessed be the logic of hiring hewlett packard senior management means a non business.

The stick.

Instead of using the finger apparently you can get a stick thing The ape seems most unwilling to go buy one.

If this was my phone Hypothetically speaking

I would buy a sd card and shunt the crap load of google apps onto that

Overall thoughts  – a laptop is still easier imho.

*ask your mummy if you do not what  ipp is.- why ask your mummy about nagios
