bulkanized new tlds

renHave heard of .ren ? or Renren Inc – apparently it is a chinese social media thing not skincare which made it an odd sighting in the mail.log

Anyhow i am none the wiser but i do wonder if this use of .ren breaks the icann rules of the global top level domain i mean the zoo is not in China.  If somebody can pass this along to the great firewall f china team it be most appreciated.

A most impressive botnet

minionIn this (my blog) I explored botnets

Most of the existing data remains the same in trend except for this isp in China who is either blissfully ignorant, or quite happy to allow it and which i keep logging.

Whatever the reason i remain ready to keep logging them from Huashu media&Network Limited when this (not here) tells me there are 3,216 spam hosts  so only 3089 entries to go.

Off the rails in China

railwaymen

Barbies Ken at work

Bananas likes engineering (my blog) but a news item about ‘boys’ engineering type toys* made me stop and wonder about the outsourcing model and the old firm whom appear to do very little now or innovate i would not wish to give them ideas.

The news item was that a new ‘computer’ stock system that seemed to mean either China was not making the items for reasons best known to them, or that the firm [Hornby] bought stock that did not exist.  Needless to say there order book was empty as well so it appears that neither side lost much.

modeltEither way alarm bells sounded – so is China making things or is it not? It appears that nobody knows what is going on hence the cry for assistance that reached our ears.

Remind you of Orwells chocolate ration anybody

the Ministry of Plenty had issued a promise (a “categorical pledge” were the official words) that there would be no reduction of the chocolate ration during 1984. Actually, as Winston was aware, the chocolate ration was to be reduced from thirty grams to twenty at the end of the present week

Its not something on our shopping list.

China’s second continent,Howard W French

happy comrades queuingisbn: 9780307956989 is a 270 page book sans notes and is this (my blog). An economist pick too in December last year and i finally lost my library queuing zen* in August, The copy in kent is still out to the same person i know this as the queue has not moved in months.

Being that is is somehow a hard read based on that person in Kent I left the book for a day, and in one day i read eight pages in five minutes. Not a hard read.

Later on I read about Mozambique and find that i am on page 45, I am going to beat that record 210 days to read 270 pages.  It will be interesting to see how africa will regard china in some decades to come, and the tenuous legal deals to acquire assets and who and who will not be protected of Chinese citizenry / descent is a point i will make in seriousness rather than boast about page counts..

chicken‘Rendezvous’ strikes me as a complex word however in the context of european languages spoken its not that hard too know what it might mean, i can assure you that it does not involve a chicken,

Anyhow three days after getting this book i had read it in two which means i read 135 pages a day.

An interesting sideways look at china where saving face and local laws mean it might be seen as something else but please do not tell the left wingers (my blog) that ok.

5/5 bananas.

spotI think i have insulted some library user in Kent enough now.  Yep.

* i use a library to keep them open as it is great service normally.

Clothing Poverty,Andrew Brooks and contributors

hipsterisbn: 9781783600670 is a book about clothes of whom Mary Portas (my blog) is guilty of many crimes.

The first chapter deals with jeans from cotton to production, and the aftermarkets and Karl Marx gets the odd mention.  Its informative and globalised.

The authors make a leap too far with banana prices trying to link prices to free markets rather than colonial quotas of which the wto and americans did not like so i am not sure what the authors consider worse. Quite how bananas and cotton are related in prices could be a problem can also be said to affect northern farmers as well as southern* farmers in all markets.

Alisher Usmanov

Alisher Usmanov who owns a football club

The author also barely mentions Uzbekistan (my blog) which  might have something to do Tony Blair being friendly with the local oligarch after all everything is great there with film stars picking cotton for there billionaire ruler (rare bbc ‘news’).  Being pro worker is another problem after all if even the Chinese can be accused of being colonial and that bosses are bad even the communist ones is a point made at page 140 although it feels an admission of failure being those lot are doing it as well.

Movement from manufacturers and retailers in recycling is also criticised despite the damage charity operations do in developing countries.  The economics interest the author more but its a thoughtful book despite a hint of regret about how things work and who is doing them be they sjw’s or right minded thinkers..

4/5 bananas. * south means hot, where north is cold not the border at watford (humour)

buy me the sky,xinran

chinaisbn: 9781848044717 is about the one child generation in china. Maligned in many ways either by gender (my blog), ‘freedom’, or spoilt aka little emperors there is no pleasing anybody.

This is a sideways look at a select bunch of the one child generation in the west and it dodges questions with the added protection of aliases none of whom is a banana which saddened me its an insult to bananas everywhere.

Quite interesting and a bit flowery 1/5 bananas.

Age of ambiton,Evan Osnos

chinaisbn: 9781847922786 is about China. I think it was an economist pick and is the sort of thing that the bbc seems not to cover.

From the beginnings of free markets (technically a screw up from Xiaogang) and retention of power this is a look at china from china with an interesting trip to europe from a chinese perspective.

It is an interesting book contrasting the rich party members with the blue ants with interesting real state censorship messages inset.  At times it is funny as the most innocent of saying is subverted take 0.6.4 meant that node.js even got censored not for what it does but for the number 0.6.4.

5/5 bananas- Well worth the read and not something the bbc would be interested in.

Frog,Mo Yan

chinaisbn: 9780241146446 is Chinese, approved by the communist party and a nobel prize winner. I don’t like nobel prize winner books usually as normally there a bit uninspiring.

Anyhow i thought i might give this a go.  It appears that you can now mention the famines of the 1960’s but not assign credit to who might be responsible. It’s structure resembles something on the lines of the archers who are family of farmers who terrorise bbc radio four with tales about farm accidents and with rather a lot of of soap opera content.

I endured a hundred pages before giving up. i award 1/5 chairman mao’s (my blog) I preferred this (my blog) by another chinese author
